Joan Anny Ellis, PhD, RN, CNE
CEO and President

Dr. Ellis is a certified nursing educator who has served in a variety of academic and clinical practice roles during her extensive professional career. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, with nursing of children as her area of specialization. She also holds a PhD in nursing from Southern University and possesses over 40 years of teaching and administrative experience at the associate, baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral level. Her professional background includes not only classroom and clinical instruction, but also nursing program development, implementation, and evaluation.

Dr. Ellis has also presented numerous continuing educational programs on a state, regional, and national level as well as published articles in professional nursing journals. In terms of professional practice, she has served in many roles, including pediatric staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, clinical nurse educator, nurse researcher, and consultant. She is also a member of an extensive array of professional nursing organizations.

Academic and Faculty Development Experience

As a Dean and Director, Dr. Ellis:

  • Served as the Founding Dean of a graduate nursing program, consisting of three tracks, including nursing education, administration, and nurse anesthesia.
  • Developed the program philosophy, as well as competencies, and curriculum plan for all three program tracks
  • Successfully obtained and maintained national, regional and state program accreditations (SACSCOC, NLNAC, ACEN, and LSBN)
  • SACSCOC Program Evaluator
  • NCLEX Item Writer
  • Developed and implemented faculty and student policies
  • Chaired nursing curriculum and admissions committees
  • Served as Dean of a large associate degree nursing program
  • Developed and implemented faculty onboarding protocols, effective teaching strategies, and faculty mentoring programming
  • Provided oversight for the relocation and expansion of a nursing program
  • Obtained state and regional grant funding for student financial aid, faculty professional development, and program improvement
